The Quest for Balance

The Pattern:

The Quest for Balance is...

The Principle:

  • Two seemingly opposing poles and center. A two for one.
  • Nothing is meaningful if it is not measurable....
  • Balance is sought but not to be satisfied.
  • Living things are dynamic. They are not static.
  • Wisdom has two truths.
  • Two opinions are better than one.

    The Practice:

    • Guiding Questions
      • What am I doing that is contrary to this pattern?
      • What does this pattern look like in dysfunction?
      • Where do I observe this pattern in my context?
      • What actions or steps can I take to align with this pattern?

    The Natural Mirrors the Spiritual

Natural things mirroring Spiritual things are observed in the characteristics that are shared between the visible and the invisible. The starting point for understanding is not the Spiritual but rather the natural. They are more one than they are separate. The natural, as compared to the spiritual, seems to be what catches our first glance. However, we need them both.

    Fractal Design, Nesting Patterns

The most effective way to interface two environments is through fractal design. Fractal design creates maximum amount of edge habitat in the smallest amount of space and the edge habitat hosts the maximum amount of diversified life forms. Fractal design is seen in the tree of trees, or the vein structure of a leaf, or your circulatory system that moves from first order arteries all the way down to the smallest capillaries. Fractals can be described as patterns varying size yet similar form. Through fractals we design with a purpose of creating more and more edges or points of contact, within our landscapes and human to human interactions.
